 I just spent the evening here after a day working at Los Alamos cruising through your Snook website and I just wanted to say hi and congratulate you on this nice blast from the past. I was on Snook for a short time in 1972 and had some memorable experiences. I was an IC3 non-qual just learning the ropes during the Bremerton overhaul and I remember waking up after hitting the floor of the forward torpedo room when Snook hit that uncharted seamount. I also remember Cdr Cossey inviting me up in the sail for a wonderful view of the boat under nuc power. I remember some faces including yours , Dackos, Rybak, Craig, and of course Chief Costa. Who was that young skinny guy who tried to get off the sub after doing something stupid like hammering an escape hatch with a crescent wrench while underway. Do I have that memory correct?

 I was on Snook from March/April 1981 through June 1983. I was a MS3(SS). One thing I remember is doing 2 six month deployments in 18 months. I was also a very junior sailor that had a lot of responsibility during the 2+ years I was on board, we spent a lot of time at sea those years. Disposing of trash at sea was an experience I won’t ever forget. Food storage was also a challenge for us on Snook, finding the right food was a challenge because of limited space available. But my experience in the Navy was a good one. After Snook I was assigned to PCU Georgia were I developed professionally as Chef.

 Des is a new check-in from Yorktown, VA. He was on Snook from 1976 to 1979 as an MMC in A gang. After Snook he went to shore duty then to Scamp SSN 588 (2nd tour) followed by COB GW Carver SSBN 656. He then went to shore duty and retired in 1987 as MMCM (SS). Des became a cop in 1988 and is a Lieutenant in Patrol division for the York County Sheriff's Office in Yorktown, Virginia.

Wayne Peters
I went to sub school with John Halloran before going to Sculpin as Engineer. My CO on Sculpin felt tours as both Engineer and Navigator/Operations Officer would be good for my career. So, I asked to go to Snook after Sculpin since I knew John would be leaving soon. During my short time on Snook, I joined the ship in the Mediterranean at the start of the deployment where I relieved John. Jim Lynch was in command. I made a second Mediterranean deployment before transferring. This time Wayne Olsen was in command. After Snook, I went to be XO on Sam Rayburn. I retired from my position as Chief of Staff for Commander, Submarine Group Two at the end of 2001.
Clarke Orzalli

Clarke went fishing in Florida (December 2007) and caught one of the ship's namesake (Snook) in Port Charlotte Sound.
